If there is one message that I cannot express enough, it is this: thank you. I am so grateful for all the time, talent and treasure shared with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Our ministries simply would not be possible without the generous support of so many people. Our work through the Food Pantry, Distribution Center, Mission 27 Resale stores, ministries for those suffering homelessness, and the Changing Lives Forever program all depend on our donors and volunteers. We could not do this work without you.
In His time on earth, Jesus told many stories about people in poverty, people suffering from hunger or mistreatment. When asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus responded with the parable of the Good Samaritan. The true “neighbor” was the foreigner, unknown to the victim of the crime, who helped when others would not.
We use the term “neighbor in need” to describe those we serve. We may not know them individually—but we hope to! We know they are in need of help, and they have come to us for help. Their situation may be acute or chronic, or due to systemic injustice or just a bad choice. Regardless, these neighbors come to us for help, and no form of charity is foreign to SVdP.
