FROM THE PRESIDENT …
by Jake Asher
Greetings to our Vincentian family!
This has been an exciting year. In January, we purchased our new food pantry at 3001 East 30th Street and are set to open on January 5, 2007, at 9:00 a.m. In August, we hosted the National Meeting at the Marriott Downtown. This gave us a chance to showcase our special works programs and gave people from all over the country an opportunity to visit our Distribution Center and our new food pantry. As usual, our volunteers were the “talk of the convention.” Everyone was overwhelmed with what our Vincentians had accomplished here in the Indianapolis council. The spirit of Frederick and Vincent were flowing during the entire meeting. I want to thank all the volunteers for their role in caring for the poor.
Many people helped us financially to buy and refurbish the new pantry. Consequently, it has taken lots of hard work by many individuals to get the building ready to distribute food. As the holiday season is fast approaching, lots of people look to St. Vincent de Paul for food and furniture along with rent, utilities, and other items to help their family enjoy the season. Currently, coats are needed, especially for men and children.
At a time when many charitable organizations ar struggling, our benefactors are reliable and dependable because they know every penny donated goes to help the needy. No one gets paid, we are all volunteers. What a joy and privilege to just be a part of so many wonderful dedicated people giving of their time and treasures to help someone have a better life. I wish each of you happiness, peace and love this holy season.
May God bless each of you.
