As we near the end of 2024, I want to express my complete amazement at all we have been able to do for our neighbors in the central and southern Indiana area. The needs have never been greater, and our response has been nothing short of miraculous.

The 30th Street Food Pantry has experienced a growth in the number of families served, with fresh produce, dairy and meat provided for over 4,200 families each week. This number is 16% higher than last year at this time—a reflection of the increasing stress our neighbors are experiencing. We have helped more than 1,400 families with furniture, beds, appliances, clothing and household goods through the Distribution Center. Home visits and utility aid are also up, making the work we do even more important. And our other pantries and distribution centers throughout the Council area are seeing the same challenges in serving their neighbors.

All this good work would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers, donors and supporters. Their continued efforts make this work all possible. And the prayers from everyone give us the strength to continue. I am so very grateful for all those who helped in our mission.

In the next few weeks, each Conference will have the opportunity to provide input into our Vision SVdP process. This nationwide process looks at where the Society is today, and where it needs to go in the future. In the spirit of our founders and expressed in our Rule, the Society seeks to adapt to the changing world. Our world is certainly changing, and the role the Society can play in balancing future challenges with the charism of our calling will be even more important in the years to come. What better time than Advent to focus on rebirth.

On behalf of the staff and Board of the Indianapolis Council, I wish you and your families a safe, relaxing and spirit-filled Christmas season. May the light of the newborn Christ remain with you throughout the New Year.
